My experience with CAS Nepal has been great one.Through this organization,i have had the opportunity to work on a grassroots level with small business in nepal. As well as had the chance to get to know and better understand nepali people and culture.
Ofcourse, the entire experience has not been perfect. There have been ups and downs but the positive have for outweighed the negatives. One issue i had was dealing with the language barrier-i admit i could have arrived better prepared. However Hari was able to serve as a capable translator when meeting with local cooperative or small business owener. This made me feel that cas nepal was really trying to help me succeed.
another issue was getting use to the style of nepali meetings. In my country, punctuality is regirously followed and the pace of life is much faster.i had to learn to stop thinking from my western perspective and embrace a nepali perspective.
I found nepalese people,on the whole to be extermly warm, inviting, and friendly. This reception enhance my time here and i will forever be greatful to those who allowed me to be a member of their families and communities during my stay in nepal.

I volunteered with CAS-Nepal for the month of April 2009. My only regret is that I could not stay longer! CAS-Nepal provided for a genuine experience: a true immersion into the Nepali way of life. While volunteering, we developed a waste management project and conducted research for a clean water and toilet project.
Most unique about CAS-Nepal is that it is a "young" non-government organization and affords one the opportunity to not only volunteer and live with a host-family, but to help develop and provide invaluable insights to this organization as it grows. I was very happy with my experience and long to one day return!

Now I am back in home, Denver, Co, USA , but carrying lots of memories of my stay in Nepal , working together with CAS Nepal. It has indeed been a new experience in my life so far. I was pretty much excited to make some difference in a far away, exotic land - Nepal .
All my worries went away when I saw the CAS Nepal staff holding a paper written my name, right in the gate of airport. On the way to hotel in Thamel, all my sickness started to go away as I was enjoying the bustling roads of Kathmandu .
I didn’t have to face any problem while being on my job with CAS Nepal in Naudanda, Pokhara as I got the nice orientation before of the program. For me, it was nice cultural experience too, which I had never ever experienced in my life. I taught English in government school there. It was nervous as well as exciting first day, but everything turned out to be cool as children started to ask me lots of things about my country USA . My colleagues remained really nice to me, helping in every step of my teaching; guided me well.
I feel being proud to be with such nice family who treated me as a member of home than as a guest. I like to thank CAS Nepal for providing me this great opportunity.

Now I am in Nepal with my friend Jolen spending my vacation. I decided to come to Nepal when I saw it on the google search engine. On the way to Nepal , our flight was about 4 hours delay. When we arrived in Nepal Airport , we called directly in the CAS-office and soon after we were picked up to the hotel in thamel in kathmandu. We became so much relieved to see staff there when we were in puzzle where to go.
It would be great to share my experiences with CAS-volunteering . It has already been 4 weeks of my volunteering. I have still more two weeks for volunteer work and then I will leave my Nepali family to visit for Lumbini and Pokhara.
I really become fond of Nepali language now. So I am learning it. Everyone in the family is helping me to speak in Nepali. I am so happy with all the family members and buba is so great.
We, friends usually go for canoe ride and for swimming with our Nepali friends dip, dinesh and suresh in our leisure time. I have unforgettable memories from the village ganganagar where people are so kind and cooperative. It has been an amazing to be with tharu people exchanging language and culture. I am so much delighted to explore such a beautiful rural village of Nepal .
My assignment is to teach in govt. school and for tharu children in community learning center. Indeed, teaching to Nepali children is rewarding and knowledge enhancing opportunity for me. Thinking to plan for next vacation with my girl friend.

Thank you for letting me an opportunity to write my experience in Nepal . I was staying in Singapore with my family and wanted to do something new and different in Nepal , so I dared to go even though there was political hassle going on that time. I collected little bit of gifts to children, and passed them out to them. I saw those kids being so delighted with these small gifts. I joined with CAS Nepal program to assist Youth club in Tharu village. The village was quiet. People were so nice. I still remember them well. Working with them was one of the happiest times of my life.
I still wonder how my 2 weeks passed so quickly. Sometimes, I get flood of memories being with those bunny people, and sometimes I still find them in my dream.

I have just completed my 6 weeks of volunteering with CAS-Nepal. This is my first visit to Nepal . This is a fantastic opportunity to live in a rural Nepali village and be immersed into the culture and Nepali way of life. After some language and culture classes I involved in my work –Teaching English at school in Chitwan .I was also trained about English language teaching in Nepal by our coordinator. The place Ganganagar and Patalahara –Tharu village-are still in my memory for their unique culture and tradition. People are so nice, friendly and welcoming. Local friends helped us to explore the new places around the district.
The great thing is that you don’t need any formal training and skills before to join CAS. CAS-Nepal provides required trainings and skills after joining the program. The program is flexible and you can stay at any project location in Nepal as long as you want. You can also meet many foreigners in your placement areas so that you shouldn't have to feel about loneliness and new culture. Also you will have chances to travel in your leisure time. The staff will help you to guide for your local travel.
Willing to visit again with my family.
